CALBAR ARABIANS
In a split second, the picture burnt itself firmly on to my pupils. The slightly lifted head with the large, round, dark eyes; the soft sweep of the nose down to the dark, almost bare muzzle with its big, flared nostrils; the elegant, muscular throat with the quivering veins; the neck that, in a flowing curve, runs over to an almost straight, short back. As if in answer to the expressive head, a tail carried high, creating the perfect balance. The body, athletic, with rippling muscles under the thin, elastic skin. The elegant, straight legs that carry the body with power and strength. Rodin or Michelangelo could have etched this picture on my eyes - but they did not. It was a purebred Arabian that did it - in a split second.
The vision
The ambition of Calbar arabians is simply to breed the ultimate purebred Arabian horse. An animal that can instantly obtain the top award in international shows. win cups in Arab races and win silver trophies for western, dressage and endurance riding.
Calbar Arabians has a fundamental challenge - a challenge that bredding work is directed towards every dag - to breed the perfect Arabian horse. The superb, unique purebred Arabian that possesses a hrmonious triad of type,m charisma and athletic movement.
This vision is the bedrock for Calbar Arabians. Adoration of the Arabian horse means interested and engaged in everything concerned with the breeding and use of the Arabian horse both nationally and, not least internationally. Today, Calbar Arabians has the occupational expertise that is sought after at international level, but it is also the place where novices can obtain advice and assistance. It is the studfarm from where recognized breeders from the whole world can obtain new stock for breeding and, at the same time, the place where many riders can find exactly the very horse they are searching for.
History
A studfarm with purebred Arabian horses is, in itself, a prat of history. In breeding work, the studfarm is a new chapter in the millenial history of the Arabian horse in which approved, controlled pedigrees and bloodlines can, in principle, be traced back to the original desert Arabs. The history of Calbar Arabians only goes back just over 3o years and yet the studfarm has succeded in achieving results in the breeding of Arabian harses that place it amongst the leading studfarms in the world.
The course of history often seems to be the result of a long series of random circumstances. This also applies to Calbar Arabians, where, right from the start, people and events became interwoven in an apparently fortuitous way -
or perhaps it was destined that it was to be so??
It is 1976 - a purebred Arabians mare is grazing in a field in Veerst in Denmark. It evolved later that this mare was to have a greater influence on the breeding of Arabian horses than anyone at htat time could envisage.
In a cloud of ambition and fascination for the purebred Arabian horse, we travelled around the world in order tostudy the Arabian horse and, not least, the work of breeding. This led to weeks spent with some of the world´s leading breeders in Spain, Germany, Poland, Egypt and, above all, the U.S.A. Some of these visits turned into real friendships based on a professional attitude, knowledge and, most of all, admiration of the Arabian horse. Visiting show after show all over the world in order to see new horsesand, above all, to follow horses that was interesting. In the succeeding years, 10 Arab mares from different breeders throughout the world was bought to the farm and then took part ina series of shows both in Denmark and abroad. This resulted in many top awards where the horses finished as classwinners, champions or achieved Best in Show. The homework had been done well, the breeding stock was top class and Calbar Arabians was suddenly a studfarm of international standing.
30 years is only a short time in the history of Arabian horses, yet Calbar Arabians have have, in the course of 30 years, manged to create a studfarm that is widely respected both in Denmark and abroad. To the breeding af Arabian horses, Calbar Arabians have added new visions, new energy and an enormous number of quality horses that will, in the years to come, influence the development of the purebred Arabian horse.
And the future?? Yes, the aim and dream of breeding the perfect Arabian horse is still very much alive!!
